Sir Joseph Banks Group

With more than 70 species of fish, Sir Joseph Banks Group Marine Park is a popular fishing spot for both recreational and commercial fishers alike.

Off the coast of Spencer Gulf and adjacent to Tumby Bay, the park is connected to a wetland of national importance. The park’s amazing diversity features seagrass meadows, saltmarsh communities, uncommon popcorn coral, sponge and invertebrate reefs.

Its low-lying rocky islands, shallow reefs and sheltered sandy bays provide plenty of opportunities for anglers to try their luck for King George whiting, snapper, prawns and rock lobster. Or join a charter, which will take you to the area’s best fishing sites.

Animal watchers - both onshore and in the water - will enjoy the diverse species that flock to the area, from one of the world’s largest breeding colonies of Australian sea lions at Dangerous Reef to the unique velvet octopus, found in only a few places in South Australia.

Access to Sir Joseph Banks Group Marine Park is from Tumby Bay, Ski Beach, Second Creek, Wisemans Beach, Louth Bay, North Shields and Port Lincoln.
